Zooming effects all open documents
Zooming seems to zoom all open tabs and not just the current document. A slightly strange feature that means having to constantly reset the zoom when switching between files.

Inappropriate?Hi Ben, you don't like that? We were on the fence about what the right thing to do was. Sounds like you'd like to remember the zoom level for each document instead. What do others think?
-
I made a similar comment about this earlier. It really needs to be at a document level as does the viewable position of each document, when you move to the left on one it moves to the left on all of them. I presume this is the same issue. -
Hi theThought, it's done: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... -
Inappropriate?Wow, speedy reply. Nice :)
Yeah - it just confused me. In other apps (Fireworks/ Photoshop) the zoom remains where you leave it when you switch between documents.
For example I had a page mockup open in one tab, and a flow chart open in another. The mockup was really big and I did a zoom to fit to see it all, then switching to my flow chart it shrunk to a really small size so I zoomed that to fit to read it, and when I switched back ...
So yes - remembering the zoom level for each doc makes more sense to me. Would be interested to know what other people think as well though :)
I’m undecided
-
Yes, I think zoom should be per document. All software I know works like that (but I have to admit, I don't know all software...) (and I have to admit, I don't see need for zoom in my work, yet.)
:-) -
Inappropriate?+1 for per-document zoom.
-
Inappropriate? This really seems context specific. If I have multiple types of documents open at a time (complete screen vs. a small subset of a screen vs. flowchart), then per-document zooming definitely makes sense. If I have multiple tabs with only full screen mockups of some related set of screens, then a global zoom MIGHT make sense.
I think that, in most situations, the per-document zoom is best. It would be consistent with other diagramming applications, and would be the most flexible. -

Inappropriate?+1 per document zoom
What was the rationale for wanting to keep the zoom across documents?
Or was it a "oh right it does that automatically... can we get away with keeping it that way?" :P
I’m kidding

Inappropriate?Following the principle of least surprise, zoom should be associated with the tab. Each Word document has its own zoom, for example. If I think of each tab as a "document" (which you do too in your comment above), it's not logical to change the zoom level.
It's true that e.g. "font size zoom" in browsers works across all tabs. It depends whether people think of Balsamiq as an application or a little web browser. I suggest the former.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I'm in the Per Doc camp too.
-
Inappropriate?+1 for per-document zoom. But you could also add a menu command that affects all documents as a short cut.
-
Inappropriate? And another for per doc zoom. Not sure I'd ever use a global zoom and I tend to go with the fewer options the better. Great stuff, this democratic development!
I’m satisfied.

Inappropriate?Hi there! Per-document zoom, along with PAN and CTRL+wheel to zoom, are live: http://www.balsamiq.com/blog/2009/12/...
I’m very thankful, and excited
