All technological restrictions aside.
I as a user would love to view and edit mockup on an iPad. This would work very well with myBalsamiq.
What do you think?

have you seen iMockups...almost looks like a 100% clone of Balsamic Mockups: http://www.endloop.ca/imockups/
-
I also saw iMockups for sale on the apple app store. Aren't they "stealing" your sketchy visuals? It looks identical! I haven't bought it yet, hoping we'll have a Balsamiq app soon, but I may not be able to wait :-(

it don't play well. import/export is limit, only support email share, miss some compoment such as grid.

Free app- can only import and present bmml files with supporto to ipad vga connector
Premium app- can create and edit bmml files in the ipad -
-
This would be really useful. One more vote from me...!

I bought both. Balsamiq and iMockup on IPAD .
Now imockup can export and import BMML file.
Very usefull in fact when building interface with a customer on IPAD in a meeting and come back to office and be able to take back informations on Balsamiq and made the changes needed (It's not that easy to get use to work on ipad for Mockup... need size, css grid system and other wish cannot be easilly control with finger on ipad..and time consuming).
It was missing an Ipad version for Balsamiq. I'm glad than imockup did it, and for my point, i don't know if im willing to pay for a new extension for Balsamiq..
Let's see ! -
-
Any update on this coming to the iPad? I'm interested and trying to hold off buying another product.

It's going to take us a while, we're fully focused on launching myBalsamiq right now.

I've already bought balsamiq mockups for PC.
I would pay more if I could get it on the ipad as well.
And I don't even own an ipad. Yet. -

Buying in any case but would love iPad version too. Need a beta tester or UX study participant? I'm local to SF.

Do you have plans to create an iPad version of Balsamiq Mockups?
I love what I have seen so far with the demo, and being able to use it on my PC, MacBook, and iPad would be awesome! The ability to save the mockups to dropbox for example to make them portable between platforms and devices.

Now that flex/flash apps can be packaged for iOS I wonder if this is going to be a straightforward port for you guys?

Jason, in flex 4.5 you can write mobile apps targetting iOS. It works by compiling to objective-c. Google flex iOS packager

That's 1 year of looking into it now, how far off are you from realeasing an iPad app?

Hi there. We're a very small team. We're inching our way towards that. We are looking to hire another developer right now to take over some work from our existing devs so that work on the iPad app can finally get started. I hope you'll understand. In the meantime, search "balsamiq" on the apple store, there are a couple of iPad apps that support our file format.
-
-
I hope to hear some good news :)

I hope this doesn't come across as an advertisement...we are long-time fans of Balsamiq and were frustrated that we couldn't use it on our iPads. So, we built an app that does just this!
You can import your bmml files (get it on to your iPad by using iTunes, emailing it or any file sharing app like Dropbox) with high fidelity and edit and present them using your iPad.
Free version here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mockup...
The free version lets you do everything but doesn't allow saving which the paid version does - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mockup...
I hope you find it useful! -

This is good news. But the price is outrageous. 63 euros. That must be a mistake. For €6 I would consider it, but still think it is expensive. iPad prices are not the same as PC prices, where I happily paid whatever the price was.
-
-
true! very expensive! there are lots of mockups app for maximum 7.99 which a price that i will pay. but 63 euros for ipad app no way!
consider your price again! -

Matt, Philip, Ghica,
Thanks for the feedback - we are still in experimentation mode with regard to the pricing.
After thinking about this for a while, we have decided to rejig our versions to target different use cases/requirements:
1) Lite version (costs $1.99) - acts as an iPad companion to Balsamiq and lets you import and view wireframes on your tablet. You can also demo it to your clients on the go (which I guess is a common use case) with full interactivity in the presentation mode. Also, within a session you can make changes to your mockups but these cannot be saved.
2) Pro version (costs $79) - provides all the capabilities of the above version but can also be used a full wireframing tool on the tablet which does everything that Balsamiq does on the desktop.
We have earlier thought that we should have a completely free version but have now decided against it and instead charge a small fee for the common use case of wanting to see and demo your bmml files on your tablet.
I hope this helps.-
Of course, this makes it worse! Fortunately I already downloaded the free version. I am also one of those who bought the PC version, out of my own pocket, because I am an independent consultant.
Apparently the idea is that I show things to my client, agree on changes and then redo things at home on my PC? That will never work.
But the whole point is that prices for apps on the iPad are generally much lower than their desktop counterparts. The Balsamiq app would be the big exception. I am not going to buy it. -
-
Absurd pricing model. Wouldn't even consider the "lite" version.

Thank you for this reply support . ;o)
But maibe you should have give a ful access to people who both already the desktop version.
I'm not agains you guys making good money for a good product ! But Common, 79$ again, to be able to use it on Ipad ? At the same time we had been supportive enought to buy the desktop version.
I really think you should provide a special price for people using both. And most of the time, we using both.
I'm very not satisfy by this price. That is too much, and not marketingly correct for customers.
I mean, it's what i think !. At this price, honnestlty, i'm looking for another solution to use both Desktop, and Ipad version, on maibe more customer oriented company.
I'm a professional, and we cannot charge so much, considering the fact also than the community bring you also support, template, buzz. We was your fisrt customer, and i really think than we you strating to grow, you forget who was the first to support your products.
B Regards, -
-
I agree with John!
Anyway, any company may price their product as they want.
As a customer i buy what i need. And believe me I'll pay for that, instead of: jailbreack > free c*ack apps install.
I have already buy Balsamiq, which is my main tool and I'm exporting them to jpg,
when i want to make a presentation, this work for me so long! there in no need
to change it.
I'll wait another solution to a more reasonable price.
thanks for your response too. -

Just to clarify, the Mockups.me iPad app is not a Balsamiq product - like I have mentioned above, we are a small team of Balsamiq fans who have built this to scratch our own itch.
I apologize if this was not clear in the posts above.
Peldi,
Please feel free to delete my posts above and sorry for any confusion caused...- view 2 more comments

Dear "Support" ... I am a consultant and don't mind paying the $79.00, it is part of doing business. But, you make comments like "we are still in experimentation mode with regard to the pricing", this is very unprofessional, your site and product does say anything about "experimentation". I want to buy your product and don't even mind paying 79 dollars but I am not going to pay 79 dollars as part of an experiment. It is not that much money, but it is a lot of money for an experiment which to me means that tomorrow, maybe it will be free, or maybe you will decide to not support it. If you are going to charge 79 dollars for a product then act like a professional, otherwise I have no confidence in your company and I desperately want to buy this product.

-
I agree guys. I would have gone ahead and bought this. 79 USD for a business product is not such a huge deal. Its not cheap and not an impulse buy, but comon guys how much are your clients forking out for these projects you are working on, surely you can fork out 79 USD to be able to prototype on the move? I completely agree with Jay though, really unprofessional response to tell people the pricing model is experimental.79 USD is a huge amount to fork out on an experiment. My advice... make this thing free, beta only if you must, test the hell out of it and use us as guinea pigs, THEN decide on your model and whack a hefty price tag on it.
Balsamiq... can you guys not just make an awesome app for everyone to use in house? -

1NOTE: Much of the discussion above is about an iPad app that is NOT created by Balsamiq.
Balsamiq is actively developing the iPad application now. Stay tuned.-
Hi Michael, thanks for the good news. Are we talking in days, weeks or months before the release? I just had an iPad and wonder if a purchase of another iPad app would be worth it just for a few days...
Thanks -

Michael,
Thanks for clarifying this and sorry once again for any confusion caused. Looking forward to seeing the Balsamiq iPad app (we built Mockups.me for the iPad primarily because Balsamiq didn't have a native app for that form factor!).
Also, just as an FYI to all those who might be interested, we have slashed the price of the Mockups.me iPad app from $79 to $19 for a limited period.
Cheers,
The Mockups.me team -

Excellent - can't wait! Please don't charge 79 USD for it :-)

@ Michael Angeles, sounds great ... I have as one of my clients a very large computer company that is about to use the iPad as a platform for an application with 1000s of users ... need a prototyping app for this project asap. Once the projects starts with one set of tools it will be hard to switch, any estimate as to when the Balsamiq iPad app (definitely my preferred choice) will be available. Personally 79 USD would be fine, the real issue is availability and being forced to use another product which is not as good but is available.

This app allows balsamiq export but not import...

ideally I'd prefer a balsamiq developed ipad app -

Hi,
Do you have a release date for the iPad app ? before mid 2012, before 2014 ??
Thanks for your work ! -
-
I have to say that seeing as how there are more iPhone & iPod Touch users out there than there are iPad, I would want to be able to view and interact with my mockups on the iPhone.
It'd be nice to edit on the iPad etc, but what i really care about is being able to view my mockup and interact with it on an iPhone.
This would probably have to be a free app. (so the creator didn't have to have the safari browser bar always at the top, incase they are creating mockups for apps and not just websites.)
It'd be good if it allowed annotations and feedback to be added to elements on screens and then sent, so I could see the feedback.
Then, I could just send a link to my client, they could open it up in the iPhone balsamiq app, click through the links, make any annotations ad suggestions onto elements and then send their feedback back to me.
I could then open back up my balsamiq file and view all the annotations etc in my mockups, make changes and send another link.
To me, that is more valuable than a full version of balsamiq on the iPad.
the workflow on an iPad would be slower and less convenient. The only reason I'd use it is if I commuted to work via train for a long time each day. Showing a client an iPad version which you can then edit in front of them is kinda handy, but I mainly do my work at my desk and not in front of a client. -
-
Is the ipad app going to also have google drive integration? Then I can use the native app web app that would be awesome and you guys would rock. Love the product.
Thank you, -
-
Not only Google Drive, but MS Skydrive, Dropbox, SugarSync and Box.com access would be nice, too. For the most techy, subversion commit/checkout would be also great!
Other nice integration feature would be, for those many users already using iMockups, the possibility to open a native Balsamiq BMML file in iMockups (send to iMockups directly from the native Balsamiq app) and also open it directly from an email, similarly as when you get a pdf via email and can choose where to open it. -

@Giovani Spagnolo: Saving to a cloud drive is under consideration, but may not be in the first release.
@Dan Cernoch: Marco's actively developing it now. We started demoing to get feedback. A couple of weeks ago we did this at UX London. We don't have a target date to release, but will likely do a pre-release to a small user group before releasing widely, as we usually do.- view 1 more comment

Count me in if you need a tester. We sadly missed your session at ux london, saw it pop up (we're shoreditch based). I do a lot of travelling and all our wireframing grinds to a halt when i travel as its not even possible to work offlne then upload online later. Would be happy to a case study for you guys also as were massive balsamiq fans (im co founder of ethicalcommunity.com). As a tech business we're good at providing appropriate feedback also.. Just say the word! Cant wait to see this!

For anyone who cant wait till this works on ipads just found an awesome workaround that actually works extremely well (tested on a 3g dongle, admitedly from sweden which does have "shit fast" internet!). I used an app called "photon flash player browser". I dont think it was free (bought it a while ago, but it wasnt much). Use that browser to fire up balsamiq, then on the "sorry you need flash" page click the big lightning bolt button which connects connects you to their flash streaming system. Works like a charm, now I can use balsamiq just like on a desktop. Clearly its not a perfect fix (and performance wont be as awesome as this version balsamiq seem to be building) but it works well enough from what i've tested so far. Hope it helps.

had try omni , imockups , sketchy , but they don't play well.
