Two small glitches: combobox state and position drifting
Two happy hours with Mockups, two hiccups found. First, the properties panel associated with the combobox control is missing the "state" selector, which it needs, and instead has the "icon" selector, which doesn't do anything. Found this when trying to flag a combobox as disabled, and discovered it couldn't be done.
The other issue is harder to describe. Under certain conditions, the positioning of items will shift just a little bit. The most reliable way to make it happen is to assemble a complex array of widgets, then generate a PNG snapshot. Confirmation dialog comes up, but when you clear it you might discover that two or three things have shifted maybe 6-8 pixels. I've got a design where a numeric stepper bumps left and a tab navigator bumps up. The effect is repeatable, if I reposition the elements and export again. The resulting PNG, by the way, is an accurate capture -- these shifts happen after the mockup redisplays.
Anyway, love this application. Could have used it on any number of projects over the last three years.

Ok, this time I was able to reproduce it and I really think I got it. It was a silly arbitrary constant that I had chosen at the beginning of development which was too high (10px instead of 3px). It basically happened whenever you moved a control "just a little bit" (less than 10 pixels), which happens a lot in busy mockups with a lot of snapping going on. It's fixed in build 121 (on the web) and build 132 of 1.1 on the desktop. Same link to get it.
I’m confident I got it this time!

Inappropriate?Matti, I can't believe I never made the combo-box disable-able (that's not a word is it?) :)
I fixed it, and now it supports icons as well. The fix is in the web version and the 1.1 version of the desktop version, which you can find on my site.
As for the "off by a little" bug, I am aware of the issue and I'll be working on it tomorrow until I get it! It's a tricky one, wish me luck. :) -
Thanks for the quick response. I just went back to the Balsamiq site and re-installed from the download link, but it's still sending down version 1.0.18. Tried refreshing my browser, just in case the link in the page was stale, but it's still stuck on 1.0.18. Is it possible the link needs an update? -
Hey Matti, the main download link still installs version 1.0, which does not include this fix. You can try the fix either in the live version (click on one of the "Try Now" links on my site), or in the 1.1 alpha of the Desktop version, which you can download from here: http://www.balsamiq.com/blog/?p=88 -
Inappropriate?I fixed something yesterday which I hope solves the "drifting" bug, as I haven't been able to reproduce it since my fix. Please try the latest version online (or the 1.1 alpha for Desktop) and let me know if you still see it!

Inappropriate?Alas, working with desktop build 1.1.128 today, am still encountering the item-shifting problem. All I have to do is position/size something, switch to a different document using the new bottom row navigator, then switch back. Exporting a PNG also bumps things reliably, too -- anything that causes a screen redraw will trigger the shift.
The real mystery to me why only certain objects exhibit this behavior. If you're having problems reproducing it, let me know and I'll e-mail the XML.

Inappropriate?Yup, that nailed it ... second try's the charm. Thanks for pursuing that bug; it was the only thing about Mockups that was making me frown. Come to think of it, let me click this happy face thingy ...
I’m thankful
