Paste images/screenshots directly into Mockups
Can you allow us to control-v a picture or screenshot directly from the clipboard into Mockups? That would save us the time of saving the screenshot, creating an image control, choosing the image (after I have navigated to whatever folder I saved it in), and then finally I get my image.
Would also be nice with any text in the clipboard and paste into Mockups (becoming a string or paragraph control).

The company has this in progress.

Inappropriate? This would save time. Now it takes 6 clicks (or more) to import an image from the hard drive. One click (CTRL+V) would be better.
-
Inappropriate?I like this idea too!
In addition though, it'd be nice to go in the other direction also. That is, provide a hot-key combo that would paste a bitmap image (jpg or png) of the current mockup in the clipboard - ready for pasting elsewhere.
Jeff -
That one we already have, CTRL+SHIFT+C (Export Snapshot to Clipboard). BTW Jeff, thanks so much for all the feedback! -
Ahh, of course! Sorry I missed that. :(
Feedback - now that something I can do... Thank you for the gracious reception of my feedback. ;^) -
Inappropriate? My only question here would be: where should the image get saved in the end? Mockups does not embed images, it just links to them. Would everyone be OK with me saving the image in an "images" folder next to the bmml file you're pasting the image into?
-
If you could do this, you could put the images on the moon - just let me link to them. =)
Yea - images folder would work fine. Or just in the same folder? -
The images folder would be good. I'd rather this than in the same spot as the bmml file. -
Yep, I agree. An "images" subfolder would be great. That's my current system anyway. -
Or a folder with the same name as the bmml file? -
It might be better to call this a 'resources' directory, in case other types of media are supported in the future. Maybe you'll create a compressed 'bmmz' format in the future too, including the resource folder. ;-) -

Inappropriate? That works well. Might also help me be more disciplined about copying images into the same folder, given the use of relative paths.

Inappropriate? One last thing about this feature...Flash Player 9, which is what I'm using now, cannot read the system clipboard, so this feature would only be available on the Desktop version...just so you know...
BTW, I plan to switch to Player 10 whenever it reaches 85-90% penetration, which should happen sometimes next year. -
Desktop would be great.
Any idea what % of your customers use Player 10 (rather than the internets at large)? -
no, but I guess I could look at the analytics logs...over 1,500 use the demo version every day so I think it's a pretty good sample... -
Desktop is fine :) -
Yes - that's a fairly high %. Interesting question on when to release a new feature that would require an update of 3rd party software. -
Inappropriate?why can't I get the answer I want to ??
-
Inappropriate? How do you import images now? I'd even like the 6-click method, how does that happen?
-
Inappropriate?1. Place an Image control to canvas
2. Double Click on it.
3. Browse an image either from local Folder, Web, Flicker.
4. Select image or double click to by pass step 5.
5. Hit Windows open dialog
6. Hit Load to import it within image control. -
Inappropriate?Hi everyone, just a quick update to say that we're about to start development on this feature in the Desktop version.
I’m excited
-
Wahoo!!! -
Inappropriate?Great stuff. Keep up the great work.
-
Inappropriate?Right off the bat, pre-existing mockups with images in the "Assets" folder I created for this project (in the same directory as the .bmml file) show up as an empty container with a 'broken image' icon in the upper left corner.
I’m unsure
-
hmm, it could be a capitalization issue, I'll take a look. Can you try renaming the folder to be all lowercase "assets"? Thanks for the feedback Sloane, it's just what we need in order to make this feature solid before we "really" ship it. -
Inappropriate?Okay, I went through and checked it out, and it actually has to do with a previous problem I reported yesterday. (Unsure why it popped up today instead of yesterday.)

Inappropriate?Does this mean you now require Flash 10?
-
No it does not. this feature is only in the Desktop version for now. We plan on starting to require player 10 in Jan 2010...unless you think it's a bad idea? -
I'll try to be patient. =) -
Inappropriate?Nonononooooo... it's not a bad idea... I am desperate for the page length limitation imposed by Flash 9 to be removed. It drives me crazy. I have to squish things into wireframes with an embarrassing note "this control has been vertically squished because of the page length limitation in Balsamiq..."
I’m impatient
