how do i add a custom UI control
I'd like to add a custom stencil/control. In my particular instance I'd like to add a widget that is a "wizard"/"train" or whatever you call it
Wizard could actually resemble the controls for vertical/horizontal tabs.
But these controls I cannot change background-image.
I read how you can add an image and "sketch" it (see video at http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... ). But I want this as a "control" like the tabs. So that I can:
* change the text
* change number of steps in the wizard
* change the selected step
and maybe change orientation between vertical/horizontal (or else the number of controls will just keep to be exploding i Balsamic Mockups)
How do I add this control myself?
(see attached image of a wizard/train)

Inappropriate?Hi there. Why not just use an accordion (with a Paragraph overlaid on it) and a button bar? The screenshot above seem to be just skinned versions of them.
-
Inappropriate?Peldi,
"accordion" will fit for the vertical version. Thanks.
How about the horizontal? -
Inappropriate?Jesper,
You can use the button bar as shown above. -
Inappropriate?Michael,
The button bar won't make it (i think). There is a lack of visual indication that it's a wizard. At least there must be something like a ">" between
So if I could just modify the source that genereates the button bar.... ?
Therefore a control that has the > between would work better.
How could I do that? -
Hi Jesper, perhaps a breadcrumbs component might do. Anyways, to answer your original question: if you want to bring in custom component, you can do so via the image feature. A short video introduction is here: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... - I hope this helps! -
Inappropriate?@Peldi: breadcrumbs won't do: No way to select a specific. All breadcrumbs are styled as links apart from the last. Also, an image won't do as I'd like the control to take an input like is implemented in horizontal/vertical tabs, menu items, etc. I really enjoy the syntax so that I can write something like: "first step, second step, third step"...
@Michael: I like your proposals but I rather wanted a single control that has a way to mark which point is selected. That's why I like a solution with a pre-defined widget and not something that is built of a number of existing controls.
Is there a way I can add a control like that for myself? Or is my only chance to talk Peldi into it :) -
Inappropriate?Hi Jesper, you are correct. For now you have to beg me in order to get a full-blown, editable control. In this case though, I think a label will work well enough?

you could place colored rectangles under it as well.
-
Inappropriate?I like your idea -- I mean workaround :)
...if it hadn't been for the hyperlinks (they show up for me even though I remove the square brackets)
in my opinion, a wizard is usually not hyperlinked (but can be hyprlinked backwards in rare occations)
How would you work around that constraint of the breadcrumb control :)
(I reckon you think it's easier to continue suggesting workarounds than to add a wizard control :) -
Ditch the breadcrumb control (bad suggestion on my part, sorry) and use a label! :)
I'll think about adding a wizard control btw...I'm not opposed to adding new controls, but I do like to put up a little fight for the sake of keeping the app lean and mean, if you know what I mean... :) Thanks for putting up with me. -
Inappropriate?OK I'll stick with the label. Thanks a lot for your fast replies :)
