Geometric shapes look ugly if enlarged
I'd like to point out part of the screen with a colored rectangle. The only object with a colored border that I found is the geometric shape. But I can't use it, as it looks very ugly if I enlarge it.
I'd like to have callout (or a panel) with colored border. The geometric shape is a plain bitmap, callouts are somehow different, they look way better if resized!

Inappropriate?Hi Andi, I know, I know. Is this the same request as the "boundary hinting control" here? http://www.getsatisfaction.com/balsam...
-
Inappropriate? It's not the same request, as far as I understand the "boundary hinting control".
For me, the geometric shapes look like bitmaps you resize. So if you enlarge them, you resize the borders and they get fat and ugly. If you enlarge callout or panel (as in the example above), the are resized like vector graphics and top and bottom border look better (no so fat and fuzzy in the example). -
Right, I know about the problem with the geometric shapes. Unfortunately there's no way to make them resize well unless I draw them programmatically, which would not be great (but might be necessary) :(
I was hoping that the reason you wanted to resize geometric shapes was to delimit an area of the screen...something that the boundary control would take care of. -
They look great, thanks!
But I wonder why you didn't change all the shapes... :-) -
How do you stretch a circle or star without stretching them? -
Stretching is ok. But the thickness of the border is still a problem for me, if I want to use geometric shapes as markup. -
Inappropriate?Ok, here a mockup to visualize my point:
Compare the borders for ellipse and rounded rectangle. They are different and don't look nice in the same mockup (my opinion). Best would be to have two different borders. Think, slim, dotted, dashed... (I guess one has to define a larger "two")
The new parallelogram looks very much like a rectangle if enlarged and it has a fly crawling over it. These are no important points. Except perhaps the fly, as one might misinterpret this as a bug :-)
I’m still happy

Hi Andi, the only way I can get the circle not to stretch and the parallelogram to look better is to draw them programmatically instead of using Mariah's hand-drawings (just like I do for the Pie Chart control). It doesn't look quite as good, but maybe in these cases...I don't know. -
Perhaps something you might consider, especially with the new zoom function.
