Enhanced paragraph widget for bullet lists and numbered lists
Dear Peldi,
some time ago I contacted you concerning bullet lists and numbered lists with correct indentation for multi-line list items. I believe that this feature would also be interesting for other users and you are probably already thinking on a solution.
I would like to provide you with a suggestion how to realize both kind of lists. My suggestion is to enhance the paragraph widget by adding two new buttons for bullet lists and numbered lists (see attachment). The user can now select from 5 different formating options (1. left text alignment, 2. centered text alignment, 3. right text alignment, 4. bullet list, 5. numbered list). Line breaks in the paragraph will result in a new list item. The advantage would be that there is no need to change the paragraph's text (by adding characters like 'o', '-' or '#' at the beginning of a line in order to indicate a new bullet item).
Best regards
Ruben
Unfortunately, image upload does not work for me. Peldi, could you please add the image I sent to you via e-mail?

Inappropriate?I'd like to know what people think about this idea. The other option would be to parse out "* " and numbers-followed-by-a-dot at the beginning of a line of text in a regular paragraph control and display them accordingly that way. I think I favor this option because it allows for "mixed" paragraph, where some of the text is normal and some is bullets, but I like the simplicity of Ruben's idea.

What about using wiki format parsing in paragraphs? eg Trac uses " *" for UL and " 1." for OL and so on -
-1 on Trac syntax for me. The extra space doesn't serve any purpose, IMO. I think the Markdown syntax is much nicer:
`*`, `+`, or `-` for UL, `1.`, `2.` for OL. -
Perfect! When do I get it? ;) -
Inappropriate?+1 for supporting markup such as Markdown syntax. It would be in keeping with the "rapid" part of the application.

Inappropriate?+1 for markup idea, especially as this is already used to a limited degree within the app already.

Inappropriate?I sometimes need to have a bullet list in my mockups. Someone suggested adding bullets and formatting to the paragraph component. However I wonder if it is best suited for the list component. Its a bit painful to create such a bulleted list manually. So here is my proposal.
Any takers?

Add bullets to the list component....
I’m wondering what people think.

Inappropriate?Agree that the solution should be markup based, i think allowing mixed paras is essential. It could be useful to allow # as the bullet marker as well, as when a bullet list is copied and pasted from a browser it pastes this in as the bullet!
Having said all that, any solution to such a basic bit of formatting would be much appreciated! -
Inappropriate?I'd go for the markup - although it takes a bit of learning, it gives a lot more flexibility. Definitely a high priority for me (and I have only been using Balsamiq for a few days!) as I have just added a Postit to one of my mockups listing out ideas and issues and it woudl be good to format this a bit with numbers or bullets
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?hi everyone!
just wanted to know whats the status of this request. It would be great to have a way to make bullet list or numbered list since that its something that we can use a lot in a web site. Well.. in our web site :) -
Inappropriate?I second the last. Seems like a basic.

Inappropriate?Hi there. I just added support for very simple bullets in Paragraph of Text controls in the prerelease build here: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...
Just use
* this notation or
- this notation
to make a bullet.
Unfortunately, due to a Flash Player limitation (search- in this page: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/A..., we cannot support multiple-level bullets nor numbered lists at the moment.
Once we switch to the new Flex component framework and text layout engine (a very very big and risky change which we don't plan on doing until 2011), we should be able to support more.
Anyways, try it out and let us know what you think! -
Inappropriate? This is a great new feature but why is it only in the paragraph control and not in for instance a note?
I’m happy and hopeful

I agree 100% with vandam. I would love to see this also in the sticky note which I use very often for lists, e.g.:
Improvements to this mockup:
- Add a login screen
- Do XY different
- etc. -
I love it in the paragraph control. Equal love to sticky notes would be greatly appreciated. I often use those to call out steps or a simple list of requirements for a particular item. That way I can hide it all on presentation, but keep it around for documentation. -
I made a seperate idea out of this to increase the chance of it being noticed.
"Enhance sticky notes with the option for bulleted lists (like paragraphs)"
