Cursor shouldn't stay in the Quick add field after adding a control
A small feature that annoys me, and perhaps others, is this:
- I click on the Quick Add box, and I type the control I want to load
- I select the component I want with the arrows and the Enter keys on my keyboard (way faster than the mouse)
- most of the time, I need to load a String object.
Instinctively, most of the time after having inserted a String object, I click on Enter to paste the text or to write some words in my control... but the focus remains on the Quick Add field... So I have to use my mouse to select the object I've just created.
I know that ANYWAY I will have to use the mouse to move the component where I want, but to me it seems more obvious to do the following:
1) create the string/label object
2) insert the right text in it
3) move the component where I want
instead of the following
1) create the string/label object
2) move the component where I want
3) insert the right text in it
The first solution appears being more productive and less time consuming than the second option.
I might be a totally subjective point of view but perhaps some other people feel the same...

Inappropriate?Hi Regis, this is by design, so that you can "rapid-fire" add controls from your imagination. There's no need to use the mouse to send focus away, just hit the ESC key instead.
So in your case, you could do the following:
1. / or + to send focus to Quick Add
2. type "la" to select a label
3. ENTER to add it
4. ESC to send focus away from Quick Add and back to the new shape
5. ENTER to start editing
6. edit it, ENTER to commit
7. move it (with a mouse or arrows or SHIFT+arrows)
I’m thinking I need to make it more clear that ESC sends focus back to the canvas

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?Sorry for my non-existent answer. Actually your workaround works pretty well... Thanks :-)

No worries. BTW Regis, did you just submit something to MockupsToGo? I had to delete it because there wasn't a BMML attached to the email, just an image. -
Yep I send something. I've added a ZIP file as there is an "assets" folder attached to this BMML and I guess this is why it has been "blocked" or something. Should I try without the asset file? -
Inappropriate? This keeps coming up, and I wonder if I can propose an idea that makes sense for both sides?
Can we use a timer to detect if the user has an intention to give another quick-add vs. moving or using the control that was just inserted? If not a timer, how about a key? Since you cannot use CTRL keys in the quick add bar, why not trap this behavior and determine the users intention is to move the control.

I like the idea of using CTRL (and ALT, why not) to detect intent, I'll add it to the list!
