When I create a clone of a current mockup, association to the project assets is lost and all images show up as "Image not found". When I save the clone, the project assets association restored, but the images still show up as "Image not found" until I switch to another and then come back. It's very annoying.

Hi Chris, thank you for reporting it. We know this problem and it's already in the list of things to attack. Now after your report we are forced to solve it. :-)

Mmm... sorry Chris, but I'm no longer able to reproduce the bug. Can you send me to marco@balsamiq.com a sample project to show the problem? I tested both Mac and Win.

Interesting. When I try to create a small test case, I no longer see the problem. But I open a project with all my files open and then clone a mockup that contains images, then I see the problem. Try it out with project I sent you to test the memory leak problem.

I'm having this problem too. (Mac version)
But worse now - There seems to be continual confusion on where symbols are saving as I create them. I'm ending up with mutiple symbol libraries (because I save them as new names to make sure I still have everything).
Now when I clone a page and try to keep working all my Project Assets are not available.
I basically cannot get at my project assets anymore (whenever i try to construct a new page)
Incredibly disappointing and frustrating. !!!!!!-
Hi Carbonlogic, sorry you've had a frustrating experience with Symbols. We agree that the UX for this advanced feature could be improved, and we're working on it. In the meantime, this might help: http://balsamiq.com/support/documenta... - if that doesn't help, email us! support@balsamiq.com - we'll do our best to help!

Hi all, the new release (2.0.22) should solve the problems with cloned mockups and project assets.

Please let us know if it doesn't work for you.

I'm still getting "image not found". The image is part of a symbol. Both the image and symbol are in the assets directory.

Hi Chris, the version 999.878 should fix this bug too.
Thank you again for reporting it.

Hi, I'm using Mockups for Desktop v2.0.24.
I added an image component and imported an image to the project assets folder. The image appeared properly, and showed up in the assets folder.
When I cloned the mockup, the image reverted to the placeholder and said "Image not found". But the imported image is available in the dropdown menu (along with account-level assets). If I choose an account asset, the image loads properly, but if I choose the project asset, it doesn't appear.
Also, the Project Assets tab in the UI Library doesn't contain the images, even though they are present in the project's assets folder.
Then, once I close Balsamiq and load the original .bmml file, the image no longer shows up in either the original or the clone.
Additional info: I've changed my config file to point to an account assets folder on Dropbox, and in the background I have a symbol that is located in the account assets folder.
Thanks,

I'm having intermittent problems with my project assets not showing up when I clone a project or create a new one. Can't seem to find a workaround...
I'm using the latest version: 2.0.24 -

Hello,
May I ask what is your OS? Also, please confirm the problem exists on our latest release version 2.0.24 (http://balsamiq.com/products/mockups). In addition, can you please zip your project and send to me for further investigation (see Sharing your Projects here: http://balsamiq.com/support/tutorials... for info on zipping and sharing the project.)
We keep you files in the strictest confidence. Thank you. -

Yes, I'm running 2.0.24... on Vista unfortunately. :-) Will send you the project momentarily.

Hi: This "problem" still exists. I put "problem" in quotes only because I can imagine what's happening in the code, and it's not entirely surprising...
When you clone a mockup, it doesn't have a "home" folder yet. Until you save it, it exists only in the memory of Balsamiq. You could save it to the same project, or you could be starting an entirely new project: Balsamiq can't know.
That said, it is certainly a usability bug, and a fairly big one. It is disconcerting to clone a perfectly good mockup only to have many of its images suddenly replaced with placeholders and error messages.
Upon cloning a mockup, it should provisionally use the folder of its source to maintain the "project assets" links until it is saved. If it is saved into the folder of its source, the images continue to refer to that project's assets. If it is saved to a new/different folder, any project assets embedded in the mock-up should be copied to the new project's assets folder.
Resolution of file conflicts in the destination folder is left to the developers as an exercise. -

I am running 2.1.14
I have had some problems with adding my own image to a button in a symbol. After a bit of testing of different things I think I now found a way to get around it.
If I add an assets folder underneath the assets folder and have the image in both the /assets/ folder AND the /assets/assets it seems to work better.
The "problem" with cloning a mockup still does give me the message "Image not found"- view 4 more comments

The image reference seem to created as a relative path to the .bmml file where it was added the first time (i.e. "../assets"). But the image file is located in the same folder as the symbol.bmml, and thus it is not found when editing the source.
A workaround is to create a assets folder in the assets folder with the image within it. -
-
Another way:
Create a mysymbol.bmml file in the assests folder. Create a symbol there using the image contained in the assets folder.
When this symbol then is used in a new mockup within the project, I get "Image not found" on new instances of the symbol. Even after opening and closing the new mockup.
It looks to me as the same reference problem but the other way round, since making a copy of the image file into the project folder works as a workaround. -
