Attempting to Save a new Mockup fails, and subsequent Open and Save attempts also fail (Linux)
This is something I can reproduce each and every time.
I'm running Balsamic Mockups:
Version: 1.5.12 - 12/28/2008 01:58 (Air)
Flash Player Version: LNX 10,0,12,36
On Ubuntu Intrepid.
1. I Open an existing mockup.
2. This Opens and displays fine.
3. I Clone this mockup
4. I then attempt to save the clone
5. The Save dialog pops up, and I type in my mockup name 'fail.bmml'
6. I click 'okay'.
7. The file is then saved as '.bmml', and in the title bar reads 'file:///.bmml'
8. From now on, if I try and save a new mockup, or open a mockup, nothing happens, i.e. there is no file dialog, or anything.
The workaround I have for now:
To get 'open' working again, go to ~/.appdata/ and delete the Balsamic folder.
To create a new mockup, copy the file from an old one, and then open it. Regular save seems to be fine, just not Saving a new item.

Inappropriate?There is a simpler workaround.
To create new files just clone some 'master' file in your OS.
To open the file just drag and drop it into the BM window.
The Save operation (not Save as...) works well for me.

Inappropriate?Hi Mark and Eugene, let me fire up my Ubuntu machine and take a look. I'll report back soon. If it happens every time it should be easy to fix.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Hi there. I was able to reproduce the bug, but it looks like a tricky one to fix, so it might take me a few hours. I'll report back with updates, my apologies for the hassle and I'm glad you have a workaround for now.
I’m bracing for a tough debugging session
-
Inappropriate? One thing: if you get stuck, there's no need to delete the whole Balsamiq Mockups folder, just go in it and delete the #SharedObjects folder (this way you won't have to re-register).
OK back to debugging. I just verified that it only happens on linux, which is good (and bad, too). :) -
Inappropriate?Hi there, I think I got it but I'd love your confirmation before merging the fix into the main branch.
Here's where to get the build with the fix: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...
Delete the #SharedObjects folders first, then launch the new version and follow the steps above. It should all work fine now.
Let me know if it all works fine and I'll put the fix in 1.5. Thanks!
I’m hopeful I squashed it!

Inappropriate?Almost there! :D
Found a small bug in the next version.
I can create a new item, and save it fine.
I then clone it, and attempt to save it.
Instead of saving it as the new file name I have written, it saves it as the file name of the mockup I * just cloned *.
I’m confident we're almost there!

Inappropriate?Ok Mark, I think I really got it this time: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... - let me know how it goes and I'll merge it into 1.5 right away, as this is not a good bug to keep in there... :)
I’m hopeful I squashed it!

Perfect! works a charm! Thank you very much! -
Inappropriate?Glad this is fixed ... for me, this problem started when I did a save all. I noticed that it tried to save "file:///*.bmml". This was not the correct path (and normal users certainly can't write here), but the above fix worked and I'm upgrading now.

Inappropriate?Unfortunately this seems to be not fixed in 1.5.14.
I opened the mockups, changed it and tried to Save As. The dialog was opened, but the mockups was not saved with the name I provided.
After this the dialogs do not appear until I delete the #SharedObjects folder, and after deletion they do, but saving does not work (even simple Save, not Save As, as before)

Ouch! Can you please email me the exact steps again? I'll look into it ASAP. -
Inappropriate?Hi all, the fix for this was just shipped as part of this update: http://www.balsamiq.com/blog/?p=662

Inappropriate?Hi,
I'm getting a problem similar to what Eugene described, but in 1.6.17: when I clone a mockup and try to save it, nothing happens. Not every time, but often.
Also, one time it seemed to work and the new mockup was saved correctly, but later I found out that all the changes I made to the new mockup were also made to the original I copied it from. Backups are good :) That's when I stopped cloning and started copying mockup files.
The system is Ubuntu Jaunty.
